EXTOD - Active: Study looking at the effect of regular activity on people with Type 1 diabetes

This 6-week study aims to assess how taking regular active breaks can have a positive effect on glucose management and daily insulin dose on sedate people with Type 1 diabetes.

This study is being conducted fully remotely. You will be asked to complete 2 health assessments and wear an activity monitor for five weeks. As part of the study, you may be asked to include “active breaks” into your normal routine. Adding in active breaks will mean completing short three-minute walks on a regular basis. You will get access to a mobile fitness app that will support you in doing this.

You will be compensated with a £75 (LovetoShop voucher) for your participation.

Study overview

Your Participation

All study participants will be asked to complete a health assessment at the start. This will include a range of tests (eg blood samples, body measurements etc) as well as questionnaires about lifestyle and medical history. You will be provided all of the equipment to do these tests.

If randomly allocated to the “active breaks” group you will complete a four-week programme of ‘active breaks’ consisting of regular short walks to break up sitting time. During this time you will have access to a mobile fitness app that will prompt you to go for the short walks.
